Right now we have about 20 people bringing boats to let people borrow them. Mostly rec kayaks, a few canoes, and I think a few white water boats.
Cathy from the St. Louis Canoe/ Kayak group is hoping to come as well, I think. She mentioned it at the Y practice.
If any MWA members have boats (rec or ww) that they are looking to sell, this maybe a good opportunity. Also, I think many of the people attending are newer to paddling or just starting to gain interest in paddling. So this may also bee a good opportunity to get the word out about the MWA classes and other classes (your classes, Alpine Shop, etc).
Last year people paddled around and tried different boats after we went over the different types of boats and gear. We didn't really do too many demos on paddle strokes or work on rolling, because we had so many people who wanted to try various boats. But, this is something we could do if we have people interested in helping with it. We did do demo's on how to pack for over night trips in rec kayaks and went over gear for that kind of trip, as SLAG has many overnight floats once it gets warmer.
Let me know if you or anyone else from the MWA is interested. The event is at CCL on Sat 4/3 at 11 am. I think it will last until 2 or so. I need to leave by 1. But Sandy and Gary (co organizers for the event )will be there the whole time.
Thanks and hope to see you at the races...I get back in town a few days before, so I am planning on being down there & volunteering.
