Classes are being held at O'Fallon YMCA indoor pool, as the SCCC does not have a pool

-If you do not intend to help teach the class during the "one on one" pool instruction, or if you are not a first or second year alumni of the class and do not need refreshing, please understand that we strongly prefer that you do not show up with the sole intention to have pool practice time for yourself, as there is not enough room.
-Pool practice time while students are in the classroom is available after 4:30pm when the pool is closed to regular YMCA session patrons. If there are only a few patrons between 4:15 and 4:30, Y management has allowed us to be let in and section off the pool for each group for that 15 minute period.
-After the students are in the pool and are having demonstrations of strokes and methods (they will be on the sides watching and not in boats at that point), we will have a few lanes on the opposite side for the helpers to practice as well, after 5:15pm, as long as the activity is quiet enough to allow the students to hear their instruction, and this is of course as long as there are adequate instructors for the students. There will be the same sessions with instructors one to one with students mixed into the format as before, and games thrown in occasionally, until shortly before 7:00pm.
We are "renters" at the pool, so we need to meekly keep that in mind when we enter the complex. The facilities are relatively new, well kept, and frankly very nice. There is no diving depth "deep end" of the pool and a majority of the pool area is perfect for instruction. We are working to regain the use of the showers and lockers, but if that gets approved we will still need to bring our own towels and locks. Boats must be brought from the rear of the facility, and clean and free of sand or leaves before they enter the building. Care must be taken on deck entry, and not to run into the interior walls of the pool.
There will be no storage for boats, paddles or skirts at the facility. We will be bringing boats and gear back and forth weekly. No equipment can be lent from the class stock without permission.
If you are bringing your own boats, make certain that they are cleaned out before they enter the pool. It is actually better for both the pool and your gear to remove flotation bags before bringing to the pool, because they tend to trap leaves and sand in the boat.
We are keeping skirts in the classroom until the students come out, so you should try to bring your own pool skirts, but we will have an adequate amount of pool skirts for helping instructors (about 10 of them) as soon as the boats are brought into the pool area around 4pm. The idea is to have a dry and correct sized skirt for the student when they come to the pool.
So, in general, we want to create the best impression we can at the OFallon Y. Please be considerate to both the facility and our mission for instruction. Thanks,
Bill c/o John
